Woke up on 12/3 and found it chilly in the house. Quick inspection showed the upstairs thermostat was dead. Chased the idea of the thermostat being dead for a while, but proved myself wrong there. That’d be much too easy.
If the device was fine, I deduced there was no power to it (upstairs). Why? Welp, to the attic we go (also, good day to have a good headlamp)!

And what do we find?
An angry A/C air handler that has entered some emergency mode and shut its own power off – which in turn, powers the thermostat. Which also controls the heat..
The angry red lights sent me away. Quick solution was hookup an old, battery powered tstat. Next step was find AC power for the smart tstat.
Next step, find someone to go into the attic and fix that mess!
